3 Reasons Why I Like Being An Author
I like being an author for a variety of reasons, but I’m only going to talk about the top 3 reasons today. If you follow my newsletter, I often talk about what’s going on in my life, but today I’m going to share with you why I love writing and how it’s made an impact on my life.
- The first reason why I love being an author is because it allows me to be creative. I’m naturally a talker, and have been ever since I was a little girl, and this allows me to “talk” without actually talking anyone’s head off. I love learning why people do the things they do, and inventing characters, putting them in difficult situations, and learning their motives for doing the things they do is greatly entertaining to me. My characters speak to me in volumes and, often times, I’m not even sure why they do half the stuff they do in my books.
- Another reason I love writing is because it gives me an outlet. I put a lot of myself into my characters, so when I work out their questions and/or problems, it sometimes helps me solve some of my own. Working through my characters has also taught me patience. It’s easy to become inpatient with people or situations, and they’ve shown me that sometimes it’s best to slow down and really take a look at what’s going on. Personally, I think a lot of our own problems and situations can be solved if we step back and consider the other person’s point of view on a particular situation.
- I’m a reader. I wasn’t always a reader, and, honestly, when I was in high school, I hated reading. It felt like a chore. Things have changed and now I love reading a good story, and I love telling a good story just as much. I also love interacting with my readers.
- I like writing about whatever I want to write about. There are so many people who have “writing” jobs, but they’re limited to what they can write about or what they’re allowed to say. As an Indie author, I’m my boss. The only person or people that I have to worry about pleasing is my readers, which I always try to go above and beyond to deliver quality work that’s well written that they’ll enjoy.
Okay, I said 3 reasons, but gave you four. 😂 Like I said above, I’m a talker. What can I say? One word of advice that I’d like to give other writers, or those who want to write but are scared, is take the plunge! It’s so rewarding and the benefits far outweigh the risks. Even if you don’t publish it on Amazon, there are other places such as Wattpad and a host of other sites where you can submit free stories to get feedback to improve your writing. You’ll never know if you don’t try. Don’t ever think that you can’t write. What if we all listened to the people who said things were impossible? Nothing would ever get accomplished. Just write the story.
